What does the Lord require of you? To do justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8 - the verse inscribed at the entrance to the religion wing at the US Library of Congress)

We learned from the sermon about Micah 6:1-8, which illuminates for us the need for a restored relationship with God, and the way towards a restored relationship with God. Jimmy Chee showed how the prophet Micah calls us as God's people to realize the injustice and idolatry in our lives. All the sacrifices that occupy our religious lives don't work to restore a relationship with God; they're actually a way we try to buy God, and this can never succeed.

Only grace will work, for by grace God gives us the righteousness we can never generate on our own. With this grace we're at last able to do justly, as God expects: and justice means kindness to the neediest in our society. With this grace we become people who not only do mercy, but love mercy. Finally, with this grace we experience companionship with God, which grows little by little through the course of our lives as we keep trusting in God.
